My own path into public health was shaped by mentors who made time, shared knowledge, and opened doors — and I am committed to doing the same. This page is meant to make our interactions as clear and equitable as possible. Knowing what to expect and how to ask for support should not be a privilege.

Research & Mentorship Opportunities

I welcome inquiries from students interested in immigrant health, precarious work, health policy, and health equity — particularly those with interests in Hispanic/Latino communities or mixed-methods approaches. Students from underrepresented backgrounds, including first-generation college students and undocumented students, are especially encouraged to reach out.

Letters of Recommendation

I am happy to support your applications for graduate programs, fellowships, and awards with a letter of recommendation when I am well-positioned to do so. A strong letter comes from someone who knows your work — so the more we have worked together, the more I can advocate for you specifically.

Before reaching out, please review my full LOR guidelines below. In brief:

• Request at least two weeks before the deadline
• Include a brief statement explaining why I am the right person to write your letter
• Attach your CV/résumé, personal statement (if applicable), and all relevant application materials in one email

Last-minute requests cannot be accommodated. I know opportunities sometimes appear unexpectedly — if that happens, please reach out anyway and I will let you know whether it is feasible.
